FEAR 3 Review

Gamers, who played any iteration of F.E.A.R. before certainly know why this series is so popular. The games are all solid first person shooters, along with horror elements. A common gamer's perception is that when he/she is not shooting at enemies, they feel relaxed, but F.E.A.R. does not provide you that luxury. You feel more tense when you are just roaming around the level instead of shooting. That is exactly what made the first F.E.A.R. so great and different from other fps games. F.E.A.R. 2 certainly tried to follow the footsteps of the first game. In case of F.E.A.R. 3 the game developers seem to divert away from the horror side and concentrated more on the gameplay and story.

The horror...

Well, like what I have already said, the horror portion of the F.E.A.R. 3 seems to be the least important part from the developer's point of view. They did not try to keep the player on the edge like the previous ones, where a player would jump out of his/her chair or feel tense all the time while playing the game because of psychological impact of music and environment. Instead horror was kept to minimal level where the creep (Harlan Wade) tries to attack you in most of the intervals of the game and several other environmental scares. Previously you always tried to avoid Alma and she was one of the main reasons why you feared F.E.A.R., but in F.E.A.R. 3 that impact is gone.

The gameplay

From the gameplay perspective F.E.A.R. 3 is certainly a great game. The enemy AI is better than ever. You can hear them speak to each other as they try to pin point your location and flank you out. Although you are limited to carry only 2 weapons and the arsenal you get in the game are also limited when compared with other fps games, but that does not degrade the quality of the gameplay that F.E.A.R. 3 will offer you. When everyone is trying to clone the famous fps (need I mention the name?), F.E.A.R. 3 is standalone and different from those games and it is not just another war game. If you are an fps fan then F.E.A.R. 3 certainly has something different to offer among the fps to you. There will be plenty of occasions when you will be outnumbered and most fire-fights are very intense, giving you a satisfaction you deserve after you complete an area.

The graphics

F.E.A.R. 3 is not a graphical eye candy, like some other fps games. But the question is, are you one of those gamers who play a game because of its "awesome graphics"? Then, you certainly will not be satisfied with graphics quality of F.E.A.R. 3. Among the different versions on consoles and PC, the PC version is the only one that looks quite good with all graphical setting set to high and it runs pretty smooth on all versions.

What to expect from F.E.A.R. 3?

F.E.A.R. 3 offers you intense fps gameplay with strong AI with an engaging and may be a little bit confusing (for new players of the series) storyline. The ending of the game is also superb, as it keeps the window open for a sequel with any kind of scenario imaginable.
